For the last week we've been doing the "CeCe Two Step". It's a little dance where you take one step forward and two steps back, then spin in place for awhile.
A week ago she had an amazing Friday and then the tube popped out when they were suctioning her in the evening and we had to start all over again. She had emergency surgery last Friday night, a bigger tube was put in, and then sedation and total calm all weekend long. For whatever reason the stoma isn't healing very fast. The stitches from this one stay in until Monday.
This past Monday they started bringing her off sedation again, and I believe that ended today. Yesterday she was moved from the ventilator to the CPAP machine, but now for whatever reason she isn't breathing deep enough and is back on the vent. I haven't heard the results of the latest x-rays.
PT came today and she did a better job supporting her head sitting up, but it's going to be a long road.
We do know that once she does come off the vent and can breathe room air with the trachea she will be moved over to rehab at Miller Dwan. Once she is able to eat and drink again, and hold herself upright in her wheelchair she can go home.
Last night when her nurse was applying lotion after her bath Ce-Ce had her first belly laughs since all of this began, so that is definitely a step in the right direction!
