Real Housewives of Superior

For reasons I can not say I will be using our pseudonyms in this blog.  Brandy T is me.....I have nothing to hide.  Sandy Hughitt would always like me to use that name, but I wont, and Boomer Cummings...well, she just likes the name way too much.  I prefer Carlette which was her first choice.

Anyway, our evening began at Grizzlies.  Now I said we would not go back for Happy Hour there again, because the prices are just way to high, but my sister game me a gift card for my birthday so there you go.  I loved my titanic raspberry tea, and the fish sandwich there is always good.  Way too expensive compared to all the other places, but good.  The waitress kept hurrying us to pay, or "can I get you anything else?" because there was a line to get in.  That was annoying.  When we happy hour sometimes we can spend hours sitting and talking at one place.  Grizzlies would not be that place though, because of the prices.

Then we moved on to Aces.  Now before I get into THAT, I have to make a comment.  Grizzlies and Aces are priced a bit higher, and never ever have I been accosted at either one of them.  It's a different clientele, that have obviously learned manners at some point along the way.  The end.

So, we arrived at Aces, and right away we see Boomer's male friend who works there.  He's on his way out for the night, because as a rule only women are allowed to work the Friday/Sat night shifts.  Yes, that's true.  After talking with him we settle ourselves at a high table kind of near the corner out of the way.  Lots of guys watching the Brewers play ball, and I (who do not have cable) was happy to finally be able to see a game.  We have had issues with service at Ace's in the past and that's why we rarely go there.  It took about ten minutes for our gal to come over and take the drink order.  We all had the signature martini which mimic a cosmopolitan, but badly in my opinion.

I'm busy watching the game, while we wait a pretty long time for our three drinks.  Suddenly though, I start to notice something.  The "hostess" caught my eye, or rather her obnoxious jacket did, and when I really looked at her I couldn't believe it.  Long blond curly hair, tight black short dress, boobs spilling out,  and a leopard print jacket covering it.  I turned to Sandy Hughitt and said, "Ha! Real Housewives of Superior."  To which Sandy replied.  "Oh my God, she goes to High School with my daughter."  Upon further inspection, she is no more than eighteen.  Yes, we are now wondering if you are supposed to be working, even as a hostess, in a bar when you are under age.  So now my interest is piqued and I start really looking around.  They are everywhere!  Young, long blond hair (mostly dyed) and extremely tight black dresses.  Boobs as far as the eye can see.

As I stated above, I didn't care for the martini.  Not much alcohol in them so Sandy and Boomer decide to have another.  We wait.  We wait some more.  Real Housewives everywhere but in our corner.  Finally Boomer writes an S.O.S. note on a napkin (Dear Mysterious Stranger) and tosses it at her friend Adam(?) who is sitting near us at the bar, he flags one of the R.H. bartenders to get the drinks.  There is definite confusion among the R.H.'s and finally after much shaking out of the blond manes, and hair flipping, a young R.H. in training is sent over our way.  (This is tremendously amusing, but equally irritating to me.)

Finally the girls get their drinks, but this time no straw, no cherry.  Yeah, and at least from me, no tip.

Boomer was wondering if I could run a poll on my blog, and I did used to be able to, but I don't see that function at the moment.  The question is.......   Would a man (because this is obviously targeted at YOU) rather sit and look at boobs all night and have bad service?  Or would he be happy with regular everyday competent women and good service.  I do have to mention there was one girl with short, dark hair, in a black (revealing) top and pants.  I never saw her serve anyone.

When I got home I saw an employment add for experienced servers at Ace's, and I laughed my head off.  They forgot to mention the blond hair, big boob requirement....... hmmm....if I dyed my hair...... not a chance. :)

HeeHaw Happy Hour

It has been a few days since Happy Hour, so I'm going to have to think back to the particulars.  It has been a busy weekend, but Happy Hour was pretty tame.

Lisa and I met at five over at Keyport.  The server, who doesn't wear a name tag, actually remembered me from the Friday prior, and even that I had Opulent (vodka) and pink lemonade!  Impressive, since I didn't do anything worthy of remembrance that evening. :)  That is a good sign when we are looking for a home base.  The fact that they carry UV pink lemonade is another!  Which is what I had to drink.  Lisa had Miller Lite (shocking I know) and the deep fried cauliflower.  I had the chicken strips and fries.  We were both pleased with our choices.  Great service, good food, and the prices are perfect.

I called this blog Hee Haw Happy Hour because of the patrons of the establishment.  I would not be surprised to see my old next door neighbors (The hillbillies) out on the deck.  I am trying to remember one of the lines of conversation that almost made me choke on my drink, but I can't. It is an excellent people watching venue.  The average age of the clientele is probably 55 though.  Definitely not a young crowd.  We seem to say that a lot, and I said to Lisa, "Well, when we stop noticing how old they are it will probably be because WE are that old."

Lisa and I parted ways for about a half hour.  I had to run home and finish cleaning the apartment for my weekend house guests.  We met back up at V.I.P at about seven-thirty to watch the Packer game.  The Lounge Hounds were also playing, and they are a fabulous group!  Kind of old a.m. radio tunes from the seventies, but we like them!  If you have the chance you should definitely check them out.  Christina was also at the bar and we had a good time watching the game and listening to music.  Barry the bartender was in rare form, and that's all I have to say about that.  Well, that, and subtlety is not his strong suit.......  I did learn a new joke, but of course I can't tell you cause it's x rated.  I think I surprised him when I told him one back.  :)

My evening ended at nine.  I had to scurry home to let the relatives in!  It was good to see Melanie and Les again, even though we didn't have much time to visit.  They were great house guests, and not only did I get a brand new berry bowl, I also got another vase!!  I squished Milkie good-bye and begged her to behave, then went to stay at Kate's with Sky.  Nothing like sleeping with a one hundred pound dog who finds great  joy in bounding into the bed at all hours of the night to wake me up.  Plus they took the good computer.  OH, and the good breakfast sandwiches are NOT in the freezer.  I will be taking it up with the customer service department!

So now it's Sunday evening and I'm spending some time at home before going back up to my sister's for one more night.  I thought maybe Milkie would like to spend some time together, but apparently her nap is more important.  That and the fact that while she was a good girl for company, she bit me.  When I got here it was all lovey dovey for about ten minutes, then she just bit my hand.  Not hard, no marks, just a little shot to express her displeasure I'm sure.  So I expressed my displeasure right back and then she went to bed.  :)  *sigh*  I'll be home after work tomorrow and we can begin again.

Happy hour this week (if it happens) will be on Wednesday or Thursday.  Kerri and I are both heading to the cities this weekend.

OH I almost forgot.  The girls went and watched the baseball team from "Players" on Thursday night.  We went back to Players for a bit, but it was boring with a capital B.  Then over to Grizzlies in Superior for their late night Happy Hour.  I'm not going to Grizzlies again.  Too expensive, and Lord in Heaven........WHO puts corn in guacamole?????  So much corn that if you took out the corn there would be nothing left.   YUCK   Plus, the regular price of a titanic tea is now $6.00.  No, I'm not kidding.  So at Happy Hour prices they are $4.50.  Which in my opinion are what they should be regularly priced at.  The end.  :)

H.H.W.T. Whirlwind

This is a Happy Hour World Tour blog!  I'm having a little trouble coming up with an interesting PG version of last nights events.  The other stuff is so much funnier.  Scaring away the third base coach.  (Perhaps our discussion of the male anatomy was a tad too loud?) Is "Commando" Quinn really playing baseball that way?  (No, there were batman underwear disclosed to ALL of us later.)  Is Danny Boy really coming in from the outfield smoking???  Yes, yes he was.  Did that jerk really just call the ump a douche bag?  Would it be wrong to tattle on him?  We raised our hands, but no one called on us. :)

The weather forecast for last night was kind of "iffy", so we decided that instead of getting drenched on a deck we would check out some of the establishments that do not offer that amenity.

Our evening started off at "Grizzlies", now you are going to have to excuse my lapses in memory because I started off with a "Titanic Tea" and I should never, ever, ever, drink Long Island Tea.  It is sooooo gooooood, and true to form, two inches into the glass and I'm giggling like a nut.  The strawberry tea, and the service were very good.  The food and the prices, not so much.  Let's see.  There is a three apps for 9.99 deal, so since we knew we were going to several establishments that seemed like a good place to start.  Potato skins, (bacon on the side for the vegetarian) onion rings, and cheese curds were what we chose.  The tiny plate of food that arrived was kind of a shock.  We're used to the app platter at C's, where the food is cheap, plentiful, and delicious! (Too bad they closed.) What arrived was definitely the opposite.  So we each had our little portion and then climbed into Lisa's Jeep Liberty to head out to the next destination.  Yes, I had to leave my car behind.  I freely admit that I can not hold my liquor, but at least I'm smart about it!

Our next stop?  Aces on 29th.  Now, we have had some bad experiences here.  The food has always been good, but the service absolutely sucks.  Not just a one time thing, and many different friends having the same issues on different occasions.  We have shunned it for awhile, but heard there were some changes, so decided to stop in and take a chance.  I figured I could at least write an evil blog about them.  We were pleasantly surprised to say the least!  Nice happy hour prices, the three dollar watermelon martini was FABULOUS!  I tried Lisa's melon martini, but tooooo much orange juice for me.  We decided to order the app sampler to put it right up against what we had at Grizzlies, and let me tell you it was far and beyond the winner!  Generous portions of really good apps.  The BEST part of Aces was Nick, our server.  When he came to see if we needed anything else some old song had just come on  and we three were swaying to the music..... he walks up and says "Is everyone good?"  Kerri responds with "We're just swaying."  Lisa adds "Sway with us." and he does.  I like the general ambiance of Aces, so it will be nice to be able to go back!  This is also the bar I see when I look out the windows at work, so now I will be thinking about watermelon martini's when I'm tearing my hair out!

We wound our way over to O'Neils, (I believe that was the drive where Kerri and I were singing loudly to "Already Gone" by the Eagles, and Lisa, who does not sing, was waving her pointer finger to her "part". ) and just chilled on one of the couches for awhile.  Good happy hour price, so-so whiskey coke.  The guys were playing ball at nine and we were trying to get a babysitter for Kerri so we could go.  Lisa pulled a fabulous Mom move on her teenager and sealed the deal.  Em didn't really want to babysit, she just wanted to hang out at home with her boyfriend.  The boyfriend, however, is allowed to go with to Kerri's while she babysits.  So Lisa says, "Well, it's your choice.  I'll be home soon."  Em says "What?"  "Well," continues super Mom, "If we don't have a sitter then Kerri can't go, so I'll be home soon."  Leaving the teenager with the choice of alone time with bf at Kerri's or  together time with Mom at home.  mua haha!   One sitter procured!

Did you know that UV makes a birthday cake vodka?  It's pretty damn good!  Yes, at this point my car is still parked at Grizzlies.

Our three stops actually only took two hours, leaving us plenty of time for wardrobe changes, and visiting while waiting for the sitter. What a fun way to spend a summer night!  Minus the bugs.  We were the only fans in our section of bleacher so we just chatted away while the guys played, and cheered and laughed, and scared away the previously mentioned third base coach for the other team.  After the game (ended early in our favor by the 10 run rule) we piled into Kerri's car and took Commando along for the ride down to where Ben and Rookie were parked, and then all hung out there chatting for a bit.  One last stop at Players in Duluth, that's the bar they were playing for on this particular night.  Nice enough bar, but I had stopped drinking quite some time before.  I knew I'd be the last driver of the night.  I did have a sip of something called apple pie and oh my goodness was that good!

The deal with the sitter was that we be home by eleven, and we were true to our word.  This is a huge blog, but we covered a lot of ground last night!  P.S.  Lisa and the bartender have mended fences so while we continue the world tour we will still be able to go back to home base on occasion!  So far The Shack is still head and shoulders above the rest.
